What is a profile for? Which one should I choose?

Floor profiles are elements for joining and connecting different floor coverings or for clearly distinguishing one room space from another, but they can also be used to "soften" the edges of a step. When laying flooring, thresholds and profiles are necessary elements, both from an aesthetic point of view but also from a structural and safety point of view. In fact, they have a strictly decorative function, as they cover the portion of the floor that joins together similar or different floor coverings. When these floor coverings have a different thickness, the threshold serves to minimise the difference, signalling it by its presence. The use of floor profiles, therefore, simply protects the floor covering with a variety of finishes. A step edging profile creates the connection between one floor covering and the next. The use of step edging profiles on stairs, on the other hand, produces an effective safety system against accidental falls.
Having to distinguish profiles according to their use, we identify:

-profili soglia: A threshold profile is defined as a profile whose function is to bridge the gap between two floors. Designed with an inclined shape, it can bridge the gap between two floors or even balance the differences between different floors, or minimise the space of the step produced by the thickness of two types of flooring in a single room.

-Expansion profiles: An expansion profile is used to decorate, close and protect floor coverings such as marble, ceramic, parquet, granite or other materials. Floor profiles of the same level not only connect and protect floors of the same type, but can also be used to elegantly join floors made of different materials. It is also possible to lay the same floor but in different directions by joining them with the expansion profile.

-end profile: the end profile is an element inserted into the threshold of a patio door or entrance door.

-step profiles: step profiles help to improve the way in and out of staircases for every user. Aesthetically they enhance and refine the stairs, while structurally they protect the edges of the stairs. Step profiles are also often used for worktop or platform profiles.
